What A Christmas Party Can Reveal About Company Culture
I’ve attended my share of company Christmas parties — my employers’ and as a guest at other parties. There were some that I really enjoyed, some that made me uncomfortable and a few that were downright miserable. It was not until a few years ago that I realized something. You can tell a lot about a company’s culture by its Christmas party.
Never Say Goodbye to a Great Employee
So-called “boomerang” employees — those who leave and then return — will become an increasingly valuable source of talent over the years ahead. In what’s perhaps the most frequently discussed example, some women chose to off ramp for several years sometime in their career, and many are eager for opportunities to return. Older workers may present boomerang possibilities as well. Sixty percent of workers age 60-plus say they will look for a new job after they retire – possibly back in your organization.
To Make Virtual Teams Succeed, Pick the Right Players
Setting up small, high-performing virtual teams has enormous potential for companies to increase sales, penetrate new markets, improve business processes and come up with the next generation of disruptive innovations. But putting together a great team is tricky.
Part of the problem is that teams—both the virtual and co-located types—are often thrown together without much thought or planning.
What Employees Really Want For Christmas
The end of the year is upon us, and for business owners, this means finding a way to show your staff how much you appreciate all their hard work throughout the year. Should you gift them with a bonus, throw a lavish holiday party or give them extra time off? Maybe all three? While those are all much appreciated, you have an opportunity here to build on those perks and engender long-term retention and employee happiness. But that might mean changing the way you do things.
Avoiding an HR Nightmare: How to Handle new Technology and Create Confidence
Companies large and small recognize that the pace of IT development is astounding. They also recognize how hard it is to keep up with it and the dilemmas it creates.

Rep. Braley pushes for renewal of veterans jobs tax credits
U.S. Rep. Bruce Braley, an Iowa Democrat, will be traveling around the state to push for renewal of a federal tax credit that awards employers who hire military veterans. The Returning Heroes and Wounded Warrior tax credits, which are set to expire at the end of the year, provides businesses that hire military service members looking to re-enter the workforce with tax credits between $2,400 and $9,600 for each veteran the company hires.
